The Formosan subterranean termite has a long Houston history. The North American Termite Survey says that although it arrived in the U.S. after World War II, it was not positively identified until it was collected in Houston in 1966. In Texas, Formosan swarm season runs late May to early June. Formosan swarmers fly at night and head for lights, while native subterranean termites swarm in daylight, usually starting in February or March.
